“Richard Burton” was written in India and is part of the so-called “Rishikesh stock”. These songs were directly inspired by the influence of Indian tradition and spirituality.
The song itself focuses on issues having to do with faith, love, and mortality. The life of legendary Welsh actor, Richard Burton, is also a vital component in its creation.
Eduard sought to create a mixture of his familiar indie-folk sound, with a modern, electronica centered production. He sings, plays all the instruments on the song, as well as produces the track.
The song ends with the question that dominates it throughout: “What if the end never comes?”
lyrics
I would have never started out on this road
If I would’ve known that it takes so long
I would have never gambled on color marbles and numbers
If I’d known that it never stops
But, wait!
Have we taken out a number?
Will he recognize our voices when we get there?
Stand still!
I’m willing to bet that at the end he’ll lend us a hand,
He’s been a friend
But, what if the end never comes?
What about the man I’ve become?
Tell me what I should do then?
Have I saved enough on money and friends?
I would have traveled the world I say now
I would have been more thankful, but now…
I would have never given in
Never given in on the things I now call sins
